The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) annually rewards talented students from one of its 46 partner universities with a scholarships to help them fund their education. The non-profit organisation recently announced the students of its YMA FSF class of 2016, and with 200 names it is said to be the largest class to date.

This year’s class contains students from 42 different institutes, including the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Savannah College of Art & Design and the Pratt Institute. The students have all been selected based on the ‘case study’ they submitted on the future of 3D printing, which was comprised of either a strategic plan for a fashion business or a creative project such as an illustration or a mood board. According to The Fashion Times, the YMA FSF board received approximately 400 case studies this year.

Although the majority of students already know they are set to receive a 5.000 dollar grant, for eight students the exact amount of their scholarship is still unknown as they are nominated for the Geoffrey Beene Scholarship. YMA FSF and the Geoffrey Beene Foundation teamed up in 2008 and annually award four of the “most qualified and deserving” fashion students a 30.000 dollar scholarship. This year’s finalists include students from Parsons, the University of Arizona Washington University. The recipients of the 30.000 dollars grants will be revealed during the Awards Dinner on January 12, 2016.The runners-up will each be given a 10.000 dollar grant.

Since its inception in 1971, YMA FSF has granted scholarships with a total value amounting to 9 billion dollars. The organisation is supported by over 40 companies, including Macy’s, Levi’s and Amazon.
