British fashion company Arcadia Group wants to grow with its labels, Dorothy Perkins and Burton Menswear, by tapping the Germany-speaking wholesale market instead of opening own stores.
The London-based group is currently targeting the entire German wholesale market by presenting both labels at Berlin fair Panorama starting Tuesday, said Kay Kolenda, chief executive officer of Cologne-based Loud! Fashion Group, which helps Arcadia market its two labels in Germany and neighboring countries.
Further growth is possible
Arcadia Group Ltd has distributed and tested its womenswear label Dorothy Perkins and Burton Menswear via bigger German fashion retailers like online platform Zalando and chain department store Kaufhof so far.
Sales at Zalando have shown that further growth is possible in the German, Austrian and Swiss market, said Kolenda by e-mail. Unlike in the U.K. and Ireland where Dorothy Perkins and Burton Menswear both operate more than 400 stores, Arcadia isn’t acting as a vertical retailer in Germany. There are no plans for stores as it's a strategic decision by Arcadia to focus on the wholesale business in German-speaking countries, he added. Other countries will be addressed at a later stage while retailers from countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg may already procure collections by Dorothy Perkins and Burton Menswear from Loud! Fashion Group.
Arcadia Group was founded in the 1900’s and is one of the UK’s leading fashion retailers. It operates more than 2,400 stores under brands like Burton Menswear London, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Wallis, Miss Selfridge, Topshop, Topman and BHS. Arcadia is also currently expanding its labels Topshop and Topman by adding three more retail spaces in Kaufhaus stores in Germany.
