It has been a little more than a month since famed designer Sonia Rykiel passed away at the age of 86. Perhaps best known for her famous striped sweater and effortless chic Parisian style, Rykiel has been credited for designing fashion for real women. Although the French designer had retired from her own eponymous label several years ago, her influence within the fashion industry has lived on.

Monday saw the label's first show to take place since her passing, and creative director Julie de Libran ensured the event and collection was a fitting tribute to Rykiel life. The entryway to the École des Beaux-Arts, where the the catwalk show took place, was filled with large screens which played footage of the designer over the years.

The show opened with 13 models dressed in matching black outfits, each with a letter embellished on the front to spell out the phrase 'Rykiel Forever', a clear sign that even though the fashion house had lost its founder, it will continue. De Libran collection for Spring/Summer 2017 was largely based around uniforms and workwear.

In order to take these themes, which are not usually related to Sonia Rykiel's wider aim of liberating women from fashion, the designer encorporated looser silhouettes and played with proportions by supersizing certain aspects, such as super long sleeves, or wide trousers. Stand out pieces included a white dress with oversized puffy sleeves and A-Line silhoueets and sailor-inspired sweaters, complete with white stripes, huge bell sleeves and shoulder buttons.

The show finale closed with a shower of silver confetti admits a parade of trapeze tops and trousers featuring another signature Rykiel design, raw edges.
